Arts & Culture Food & Drink

Food, Handicrafts, Art & Fashion

Markets generally feature a startling variety of high-quality items that are often fresher and better than what you would get in a grocery store. The genuineness and inventiveness of the individuals investing in their own ideas and enterprises, as well as a unique insight into their culture, distinguishes the marketplaces of Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya.

Markets are visited by both residents and visitors, making it an activity rather than just a shopping experience. Local markets are a fantastic place to meet new people, explore local businesses, and discover the unique goods that entrepreneurs have developed.

Playa del Carmen:

El Pueblito Mayakoba Farmer’s Market: the new heart of Mayakoba, which translates as "little village," is just 15 minutes north of downtown Playa del Carmen. El Pueblito, a recreated village square with chapels and shops arranged around the central gazebo, is the venue of choice for an increasing number of events and activities, including the El Pueblito Cooking School, Thursday night cinema under the stars, and the weekly Farmer's Market.

El Árbol Playacar Market: this self-description truly depicts this pleasant and welcoming place located in Playacar's gated residential neighborhood. La cocina del árbol, which serves wonderful vegan cuisine and fresh bread throughout the week, as well as the International School, a community garden, rental spaces for events and seminars, and, of course, El Arbol Playacar Market, are all located on the site. The market is a relaxing setting filled with music, meditation, cuisine, and, of course, a wide variety of healthy, organic items.

El Jardin de Todas Market: this fantastic market is strongly supported by a very powerful idea: bartering. This eco-market, organized by the Red de Trueque Solidaria (Solidarity Bartering Network), promotes the need for people to support one another without the use of money. Appropriately, this weekly market of handmade goods and organic products is held at a community center known as the Jardin de Todas, or "garden for all."

Coco Beach Eco Market: claims to be bringing people together via food That and much more can be found at this cool small market located at the Les Alizes Condos in Coco Beach. This is a fantastic location to go if you want to stock up on some high-quality items for the day or week.

Riviera Maya:

Puerto Morelos Weekly Market: located to the west of the town square beside the church on Avenida Tulum. It produces, baked goods, homemade meals, and local artisans.

El Jardin Breakfast Market: join artisans and bakers at this morning market, where you may also have breakfast with friends. This eats and shop idea is new. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.

Jungle Spa Market: a community of Mayan women in Puerto Morelos has developed a local handcraft and breakfast area in Colonia and Zona Urbana where the Jungle Market is located. While you treat yourself to a Yucatecan breakfast, you can enjoy wonderful locally created crafts, honey, and clothing. A vaqueria, a local dance festival that allows everyone to participate and learn more about the local culture, is held for both men and women.

Papalote Market: this market is only open during the school year and is located within the school. It features a variety of vegetables, home-baked goods, handmade crafts, and artists.

Akumal Farmers Market: as there are few food stores in this seaside resort, this market focuses on produce and fruit. Find it to the left when you enter Akumal's main pueblo, right within the arches.
