Description

Embark on a 3-day rafting tour in the Lacandon Rainforest. Visit the most biodiverse Biosphere Reserve in Mexico: Montes Azules. Explore it by inflatable raft on the Lacanjá River and discover the impressive archaeological sites of Yaxchilán, Bonampak, and Palenque, as well as the Agua Azul and Misol-Ha waterfalls. Day 1 Depart early from San Cristóbal de Las Casas to visit the turquoise waters of the Agua Azul waterfalls (which turn brown during the rainy season). Next, head to the Misol-Ha waterfall, where you can marvel at its 35-meter drop. In the afternoon, journey to the Lacandon community of Lacanjá Chansayab to stay overnight at Campamento Río Lacanjá. (Lunch and dinner included) Day 2 In the morning, travel to the Chol community of Frontera Corozal, where you take a motorboat to navigate Mexico's largest river, the Usumacinta, to reach the lost city of Yaxchilán, one of Chiapas' most astonishing archaeological sites with temples rising in the middle of the jungle. Afterward, return to the camp to start your rafting trip on the Lacanjá River. The first part of the rafting features a sequence of waterfalls lasting approximately one hour, with small falls (less than a meter) and some larger Class III falls (up to 2.5 meters). Hike to the Lacanjá archaeological site, just 15 minutes from the river. After that, visit the Moctuniha waterfalls for a swim and lunch. Return to the camp by walking through the lush rainforest. Overnight at Campamento Río Lacanjá. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included) Day 3 In the morning, visit the Bonampak archaeological site, meaning 'Painted Walls,' famous for its murals, which are the best-preserved and most important of the Maya Classic period. Then head to the Palenque archaeological site, one of the most significant cities of the Maya world. End of the service. (Breakfast included) If desired, arrange your return to San Cristóbal de las Casas.
