  • Explore the Teotihuacan Pyramids with a local guide

Description

Meet your host outside of the Hilton Reforma Mexico City where you'll be given a short introductory talk to set expectations. Begin your adventure by heading to the North Bus Station in Mexico City. Get your public bus tickets to San Juan de las Piramides, the town where the Teotihuacan Pyramids are located. Once you arrive, meet your local Teotihuacan guide and enjoy an in-depth tour of approximately 1.5-2 hours where you'll learn about the fascinating history and culture of Teotihuacan. After exploring the pyramids, visit an obsidian workshop run by a local family that has been in the business for generations. Try their homemade pulque and other local delicacies like marmalade and homemade salsa. Learn about their day-to-day lives and how they make their living through their work with obsidian. Next, visit a family-run business that specializes in xoconostle (prickly pear/cactus fruit) candy and nopal (cactus) snacks. Discover how the xoconostle is handled and all the delicious things that can be made from it, including chips, liquor, snacks, candy, and spreads. A family member will explain the process of transforming the Xoconostle fruit into various products. Finally, enjoy an authentic, vegan or veggie homemade lunch at a local's house. Savor traditional Mexican dishes such as tlacoyos, enchiladas, arroz rojo, frijoles, mixiotes de nopales, and more. Return to Mexico City on the same bus that brought you to Teotihuacan, and take public transportation back to your starting point. This aim of this tour is for your money to stay in the community and empower family-run businesses. We want your tourist dollars to be used for good and empower locals directly, while creating a real connection between visitors and locals.
