Important Information
- The sanctuary is located over 3000m above sea level, which may affect those with altitude sickness.
The best time to visit is on weekdays to avoid crowds.
The sanctuary officially opens after November 20.
The flight of the butterflies totally depends on weather on that specific day it is virtually impossible to know if they will decide to fly because for the butterflies flying implies a combination between the correct amount of sun and correct temperature for them.
Even with a good Temperature there can be a cloud that stays over the clusters and the butterflies will not fly due to lack of sunlight but still they can be seen clustered.
There is a climbing of more than 600 steps at the entrance to the El Rosario sanctuary, besides walking on trails that can take us up to more tha 3400 meters above the sea level.
Whenever possible we will be accompanied by a member of the community.
