Description
We will embark on a journey to explore some of the most iconic and culturally rich sites in Mexico City. Our itinerary includes visits to the Museo de Bellas Artes, Palacio Postal, Munal, Palacio de los Azulejos, The Cathedral, Templo Mayor, Santo Domingo, and Museo Numismatico. Each of these locations offers a unique glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of Mexico's history, art, and architecture.
Our first stop is the **Museo de Bellas Artes**, a stunning example of Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture. This museum is not only a visual delight with its opulent design and beautiful stained glass, but it also houses a vast collection of Mexican art, ranging from classical to contemporary. Here, we can admire the works of Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Rufino Tamayo, among others. The museum is a testament to Mexico's rich artistic heritage and its ongoing contribution to the world of art.
Next, we head to the **Palacio Postal**, also known as the Postal Palace of Mexico City. This architectural gem, with its intricate façade and grand interior, is a perfect blend of different architectural styles, including Gothic Revival, Art Nouveau, and Spanish Renaissance. Built in the early 20th century, the Palacio Postal is still an active post office, but it also serves as a historical landmark that showcases the elegance and grandeur of its era.
Our journey continues to **Munal** (Museo Nacional de Arte), which houses an impressive collection of Mexican art from the 16th century to the first half of the 20th century. The building itself is a masterpiece, with its grandiose Beaux-Arts architecture. Inside, we will find works by José María Velasco, Saturnino Herrán, and many other renowned Mexican artists. Munal offers a deep dive into the evolution of Mexican art and culture over several centuries.
We then visit the **Palacio de los Azulejos**, a stunning 18th-century palace known for its beautiful blue and white tile façade. The building, originally a private residence, is now home to a restaurant, but it retains its historical charm and architectural beauty.
We continue along Tacube Street, to the Templo Mayor, to reach the Zocalo and the Cathedral. We returned to the Alameda, and visited the Diego Rivera Mural Museum
