Description

At 9 am, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Veracruz and begin the journey to La Antigua, a town located about 28 kilometers (17 miles) from the Port of Veracruz. After a 40-minute minibus ride, you'll arrive at what is considered the first institutionalized European village in the 'New World'. You'll stroll through its streets to visit charming sites such as the Casa del Cabildo, the Chapel of the Rosary, and the house of Hernán Cortés, the conquistador who initiated the blending of two cultures in this location. In La Antigua, you'll marvel at the ancient trees that hold stories of conquests. You'll also see the famous Ceiba tree, believed to be where Hernán Cortés moored his caravels upon arriving in America. Next, you'll head to San Juan de Ulúa, situated on a small island in front of the port of Veracruz. Did you know it's one of the oldest fortresses in America? You'll tour this site, known for protecting Spanish ships. The fortress also served as a defensive barrier against pirates and later as a prison for supporters of Mexican Independence and Revolution. After visiting the fortress, you'll take a panoramic tour of the port and historic center of Veracruz. You'll see the telegraph building, the Malecon, the bastion of Santiago, the old maritime customs house, and other iconic buildings. Before concluding, you'll head south to visit Boca del Río, known for its beautiful beaches and stunning views of the Jamapa River. Here, you'll see Banderas Square, Santa Ana Church, and the Municipal Palace. You'll finish the tour by returning to the hotels at approximately 2 pm.
