Would you like to know Diego Rivera's work in depth? The SEP, today called Museo vivo del muralismo, is a precinct with more than 280 murals by Mexico's best artists.
Highlights
- The genesis of the muralist work of Diego Rivera
- Art in the midst of the Russian and Mexican Revolution
- Indigenous and modern muralism
Description
We will meet inside the museum, on the second floor. From there we will tour the three levels of the building: the first one dedicated to the trades and traditions of the country, the second to coats of arms, and the third to corridos-poems, and the Russian and Mexican revolutions. On each level we will analyze Rivera's pictorial development over the years, as well as the hobbies, obsessions and fears of the time.
We will then visit the extension of the building where the giant murals of David Siqueiros lie, as well as some conceptual-contemporary works of art. These could be among the largest murals, in size and importance, in Mexico City.
Finally, we will tour the rooms dedicated to indigenous murals, ceramics, the convent, and reproductions of several important works in modern Mexico.
